The Tampa Bay Lightning touched the Prince of Wales Trophy and are hoping history repeats itself.

NHL Deputy Commissioner Costs Daly presented the trophy to captain Steven Stamkos following a 1-0 win against the New York Islanders in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Dallas Cowboys personalized heat transfers Semifinals at Amalie Arena in Tampa on Friday. Stamkos picked up the superhero diy t shirt transfers trophy before he and his teammates posed for photos with it.

The Lightning touched the Prince of Wales Trophy last season and won the Stanley Glass, defeating the Dallas Superstars in six video games. In 2015, when Stamkos didn’t touch it, they lost to the Chicago Blackhawks in six games in the Cup Final. In 2004, Lightning captain Dave Andreychuk didn’t lift it, and they went on to earn the Glass, defeating the Calgary Flames in seven online games.

Four of the past five teams to win the Cup have touched the Prince of Wales Trophy. Prior to last time of year, Sidney Crosby touched it in 2016 and in 2017 before helping the Pittsburgh Penguins earn the Glass each period, and Alex Ovechkin did the same in 2018 with the Washington Capitals, who won the Cup.

The tradition of not touching the Prince of Wales Trophy hasn’t worked out well for Eastern Conference champions in recent seasons. The Boston Bruins in 2011 are the most recent team to win the Cup after choosing not to contact it. The past five teams to not custom letter number kits do so dropped the Glass Final.

Bruins captain Zdeno Chara did not touch the trophy in 2019, and Boston lost to the St. Louis Blues in seven video games in the Cup Final. The New Jersey Devils (2012), Bruins (2013), New York Rangers (2014) and Lightning (2015) all dropped in the Glass Final after refusing to contact the trophy.

Because of temporary divisional realignment due to COVID-19 this season, the third round of the playoffs was renamed the semifinals, instead of the conference finals.

The Prince of Wales Trophy had been awarded to the Eastern Conference champion since the 1993-94 season.

The Montreal Canadiens, who defeated the Vegas Golden Knights in the other semifinal, didn’t touch the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl, usually awarded to the Western Conference champion.

Brayden Point fell short of an NHL record Friday when the Tampa Bay Lightning forward did not score a goal in a 10th straight Stanley Cup Playoff game.

Playing in a 1-0 win against the New York Islanders in Game 7 of the Stanley Glass Semifinals, Point failed to match Philadelphia Flyers ahead Reggie Leach, who scored an objective in 10 directly playoff games in 1976.

Point leads the playoffs with 14 goals and has scored 19 points in 18 online games. Leach obtained 24 points (19 goals, five assists) in 16 video games in and is definitely tied with Jari Kurri for the most goals in a postseason; Kurri scored 19 with the Edmonton Oilers in 1985.

Stage led last postseason with 14 goals in 23 games to help the Lightning earn the Stanley Cup. Leach scored six goals in seven games for the Flyers against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1976 NHL Quarterfinals, and nine goals in five online games against the Boston Bruins in the Semifinals, including a record-tying five in a 6-3 win in Game 5 that eliminated Boston. He obtained four goals in four video games against the Montreal Canadiens, who swept the Flyers in the Glass Final. Leach earned the Conn Smythe Trophy voted as the most valuable player of the playoffs.
